MonthDue vs Content Snare for bookkeeping firms
Content Snare is a general-purpose tool for collecting documents and information from clients, used across many industries. MonthDue does one job: getting each client's monthly-close documents in, complete and correct, every month.
What MonthDue does differently
- It checks every upload. When a client uploads a statement, MonthDue reads it and tells them on the spot if it's the wrong month, the wrong account, missing pages, or if the opening balance doesn't match last month's closing balance. Most collection tools confirm that a file arrived; this checks that it's the right file.
- Monthly is the default. Each client has a schedule. The checklist goes out on the day you choose and asks for last month's documents. No re-sending requests every month.
- A close board, not a request list. One screen per month shows every client: complete, waiting, needs a fix or overdue.
- Flat price per firm, by client count. Solo $29, Firm $59, Practice $99 a month, with unlimited requests and reminders. Busy months don't change your bill. At the time of writing, Content Snare's plans cap the number of active requests (20 on Basic), so a firm with 30 monthly clients needs a bigger plan.
The basics you'd expect
- No-login client links, automatic reminders, and approve or send back each item.
- Questions as well as files: written answers, yes/no, multiple choice, dates and numbers.
- Comments on each item, so client questions stay next to the document instead of in email.
- A client portal for files you send back, like reports and tax returns, plus files shared with every client.
- Your logo and colour on the portal and client emails, sent from your own domain.
- Team members, two-factor sign-in, an audit trail, and a one-click ZIP of everything a client sent.
- Webhooks and a read API for Zapier Catch Hook, Make, and n8n. Google Drive and Dropbox copies, including when a request is finished. Xero Practice Manager client import, text reminders, and photo ID collection.
- Checklists grouped into sections, including a starter questionnaire for work that is not a monthly close.
- A recorded signature (typed name, time, network address, and browser) and an exact-name check against the US OFAC SDN list when a client is saved.
- A second email address on the same request, and a reminder schedule you set: days after sending, then every few days after the due date.
What Content Snare can do that MonthDue cannot
Checked against Content Snare's product pages in October 2026.
- ISO 27001 certification and a public trust center. MonthDue does not have that certification.
- FuseSign. MonthDue can send a request PDF to Annature when that account is connected. Annature issues the signing certificate.
- FYI client import and cabinet upload. FYI does not publish a write API that this app can call.
- SuiteFiles. Their file API is limited to approved partners, so MonthDue does not pretend to upload there. OneDrive and SharePoint copies work when Microsoft is connected.
- A listing in Zapier's public app directory. The triggers and actions are in this app and work with an API token. Publishing that listing is a Zapier review.
- An adverse-media news search inside the tool. MonthDue can match a name on the US OFAC SDN list and, when an OpenSanctions key is set, on sanctions and politically exposed person datasets. A hit is for a person to review. It is not a legal opinion. Identity photos are collected and sent to the firm's own screening service. They are not verified here.
